How to find your HS code
Official sources only · links checked 15 Oct 2026 · open in a new tab
Every product is classified by an HS (Harmonized System) code. The first 6 digits are the same in every country; South Africa adds 2 more for its own tariff. Your HS code decides the duty you pay, the import data we pull for you and the rules that apply, so it is worth getting right. Start with the tariff of the country you export from, then check the South African 8-digit line.
